This paper provides background on wetlands economics and key economic policy issues related to activities of the MWBP in the four riparian countries of Lower Makong basin. The program activities of MWBP are tailored for sustainable management of the biodiversity resources in the region. The overall objective of the MWBP is to support strengthened capacity (human and institutional) at regional, national and local levels for wetland biodiversity conservation and sustainable use within the Lower Mekong Basin.
